The Question

Can I be Arthur?

It Must Be Bunnies

image

The Beginning

In a small kingdom far, far away across oceans and land, just beyond the horizon. In the darkness of the longest night of the year, the bitter winter wind howled in displeasure as a female child born out of wedlock screamed her entrance into this brutal world.

The years went by, the world grew more brutal, the nights darker, and the girl older.

Now the girl no longer is, but in her place stands a woman with a mission. A mission to change the world one post at a time.

My name is Ape. Will you help me continue this story by turning brutality into honesty and darkness into humour? Then post alongside me my friend, and before we know it, we will have formed the world to our liking.

The Great Re-Watch

I'm about to embark on an endeavour of gigantically geeky proportions. I have made it my purpose to re-watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer (BtVS) and Xena: Warrior Princess (XWP), simultaneously. I will during this re-watching keep notes of my thoughts, opinions and provide what will go under the title of "reviews" of each episode.

One show created a female hero based on society's perceived notions of femininity. The other show created a complex anti-hero that exists outside of contemporary gender roles. Both shows have become known as promoters of female empowerment. Then the question becomes, does either one of these shows live up to that reputation?

Sounds interesting? If so check it out;

Quote of the Now

Too many people think of standardized tests as cruel exercises in futility, as the oppressive instruments of a faceless societal machine.
People who think this way usually don't do very well on these tests.

    Hiya. :)

School has been keeping me rather busy. :/ Actually it's gonna get a lot worse in the next few weeks with mid-terms and all. I wish I could major in sleeping.

    How are things with you?

Oh hey, Yuku still isn't sending me notifications for comments on my profile! o_O

And LOL!! Even Hodges isn't safe from the 80s! I stopped watching when Sara left, but I DID like Hodges! image

Yeah, I never do understand the workings of Yuku. Sometimes I get emails, sometimes I don't. No sense at all.

Yep, stopped watching around that time as well. But recently got back into it because of this ep; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00O_RdeivsY

And it's actually not all bad. I'm thinking of watching it again as it starts up, and the fact that Jorja is back for a handful of episodes only works as further encouragement.

Think nothing of it. Good entertainment should be spread like wildfire or chlamydia....or possibly something slightly more positive, but it's early and my mind is not there yet.

But hope you enjoy more than you would a natural catastrophe or STD.

Hehe, well wisdom I'm not so sure about. But you might want to check out The Tick (it's up on YouTube, but bad quality). It's one of my absolute favourites simply cause of the gorgeous and incredibly quirky dialogue and delivery. Unfortunately only 9 eps of it. There is also a cartooned version of it that is equally fun (or at least by the small amount of it I've seen).

Then while we're at comedy there is always Andy Richter Controls the Universe. Such an awesomely fun show, again with brilliant writing and delivery.

Hopefully I haven't scared you too bad :D

i was wondering if you might be able to point me towards other shows given i'm a boring person and dont often stretch outside the norm.

That also assumes you have that knowledge and i'm not just a pain in the ass.

    Reply from TheJollyApe:

Hehe, well I am usually so good at stretching outside of the norm that peoples' reactions to my recommendations can be summed up with a "WTF dude?" :D

That said, I do have a lot of recommendations and I love to spread the love. What kind did you have in mind? The most obvious one which I always end up watching after Nikki&Nora is 3Way. Though 3Way is way crude and makes use of basically every gay stereotype you can think of, so it's not for everyone. But it's worth watching for no other reason than seeing Liz Vassey and Christina Cox spoof their roles from N&N (3Way is made by the same people).

And while we're on online shows you might want to check out The Guild. It's on it's second season now and is joyous feast of recognisable humour for us internet geeks.

And how do you feel about cartoons and cartoonesque shows?

    You are most welcomed :D

It's not the best television ever made, but...I can't help loving it and its potential. Glad you enjoyed.

Oh that Ares avie of yours always delights me. Even more so now when I compare it to B's expression in my avie. :)

    Reply from TheJollyApe:

Hehe, it does work very well along side your avie's expression :D

    Ahem...
well, your question pulled me out of my happy haze and forced me to at least try to think straight (for a change ;p)
No bangs is nice. OK, scratch that, no bangs is HOT.
(of course there's that, everything looks hot on her)
And strangely, she looks more mature. Not sure how I feel about that... yet.

*slipping back into the happy haze*

    Reply from TheJollyApe:

I know what you mean, I'm just a little afraid the explicit implicit butchness will disappear. Baby Prentiss has always been bad ass, but there was something about the introduction of the bangs that sorta exploded her butch and bad assery. So fingers crossed it stays and we can enjoy this new hotness as well.
